Oplenac Topola – Serbia the church of saint George (June 2020) The memorial church and mausoleum of Karadjordjevic are located on top of the hill Oplenac above Topola. The construction of the church began in 1910. according to the project of Kosta Jovanović.
King Pera, as the people called him, did not wait to see his endowment completed in full, he died in the summer of 1921. He officially consecrated the church in 1930. Patriarch Varnava. The height of the church is 27 m and the interior is decorated with a beautiful mosaic on which 1500 figures are presented.
The total mosaic area of 3500 m2 was made by the famous Russian artist Nikolai Krasnov. The church is the mausoleum of the Karadjordjevic dynasty, where 28 members of the dynasty are buried today.
