Zlatibor waterfall Gostilje (March 2019) The western part of Serbia is hilly and belongs to the Dinaric Mountains. One of the most famous mountains in this region is Zlatibor. This mountain covers an area of 1000 km2, and the highest peak is Tornik (1496 m). 25 km east of the center of Zlatibor is the village of Gostilje with the eponymous waterfall. Today, Gostilje has a population of slightly less than 300, originating from immigrants who came to this area at the end of the 17th century.
Dimitrije Tucović was born in this village, where his memorial house is located today. The most famous attraction of this area is the beautiful Gostiljski waterfall, which the locals call Vrelo. Gostiljska river forms a waterfall 20 m high near the mouth of the river Katušnica. There are cross-country trails around the waterfalls and smaller waterfalls, so that different parts of this beautiful spring can be reached from almost all sides.
The play of water over waterfalls, rapids and whirlpools is most intense in early spring. A tour of the waterfall is also wonderful at the beginning of summer when the hot days begin, and visitors have the ideal opportunity to enjoy the view that complements the air full of untouchable freshness.
